I’m very happy to learn that calligraphy isn’t a dying art in Japan. People will practice for hours a few times a week to perfect it. I happened to sit in on a calligraphy class last week, was given a Japanese name and asked to write it in ink again and again. There’s no denying that it takes a certain amount of time and skill that I don’t possess but I like to think I made a pretty good attempt. I might even keep something like this up when I move to Taiwan in a few weeks.
