If you’re not motoring through the streets of Hanoi (deathtrap) then most people will probably agree that driving a scooter is an excellent way to get around Asia. Here in Taiwan, it’s the preferred mode of transport for locals and expats alike.
Whilst being on the back of a scooter has its many perks – aka no responsibilities/can admire the scenery freely – there are one or two drawbacks that make you wish you were back in the driver’s seat. The chief one is undoubtedly that those things are really quite uncomfortable when you’re on them for a period longer than approximately twenty minutes. Queue bum cramps and hip stiffness and you jumping off (particularly in colder weather) feeling like you just aged about 60 years.
