Here in East Asia, shaved ice is top of list on things you ought to be eating for dessert. I think I first discovered it in Korea, rediscovered it again in Japan, and now I’m pretty happy that it’s an incredibly regular eat for me here in Taiwan, or at least it will be when the weather stops being bipolar.
Last weekend in Tainan, the weather was hot and the shaved ice was calling my name. Given that Taiwan is a tropical island, the fruits here are usually pretty tasty and as a result the shaved ice also ticks a lot of boxes.
If you’re visiting Tainan, there are an abundance of shaved ice places you should be visiting and every time it will be served in a heap that appears an impossible task to consume. Unsurprisingly, we consumed it all and I imagine you will too considering how delicious the fruits are and how refreshing it is on a hot day in the middle of March. Come summer, when life transforms into perpetual sweating, I imagine a trip to Tainan will warrant at least two bowls larger than your head, per day (or hour).
